Dressed for the Net: The Best Goalie Kits in the PWHL

With new uniforms and team names came new goalie gear, and the PWHL goalies have shown up in style! As we prepare for the tail end of the regular season and the much-anticipated playoffs, here are some of my favourite goalie looks of the year!

Toronto Sceptres

Toronto Sceptres goalie Kristen Campbell has been rocking a home and away set this year and is one of a handful of goalies in the league to have more than one set of goalie pads. For home games at Coca Cola Coliseum, Campbell has been sporting an all-yellow matching yellow blocker and glove with a sceptre design in blue near the side of the pad. For away games, she has been wearing an all-blue blocker and glove with a yellow sceptre design.

Carly Jackson, Toronto’s third-string goalie, has one of my favourite helmet designs this season with a blue cage and a touching tribute to the Maine Black Bears, the hockey team that they played for in university.

Montréal Victoire

Ann-Renée Desbiens’ goalie kit complements the Montréal Victoire jerseys with matching design features; however, her helmet has to be the most unique in the league. The helmet features three cartoon characters having a pool party on its backside.

Ottawa Charge

Logan Angers’ helmet design is a tribute to the city of Ottawa and to Canada, featuring Ottawa’s parliament buildings and a maple leaf on the side. This unique design captures the city perfectly. The helmet is complete with the bright red cage, matching the Charge’s colour scheme.

Maddie Rooney’s pads, blocker, and glove are purple with a white “frost” design, matching both the team’s home and away uniforms perfectly. If I were a kid playing hockey, I know I would also want purple pads like hers.

Aerin Frankel’s pads are a classic design with a matching all-green glove and blocker. The simple green and white design looks great with both home and away uniforms.

Abbey Levy’s pads capture the city of New York with the skyline across the bottom and the Statue of Liberty front and centre. She pairs these with a matching glove and blocker.

Levy’s helmet is designed by a preschool classroom from a public school in the Bronx where her mom works. This adorable design is complete with staples and symbols of New York including, the Big Apple, a pizza, a taxi, and the Statue of Liberty.
