After one of the most exciting, nerve wracking, and unpredictable days at the NCAA gymnastics nationals semifinals, Oklahoma, Missouri, Utah, and UCLA will be competing in the Four on the Floor competition for the national title.

Oklahoma became the first team to earn their ticket to the finals after earning the highest score in the first semifinal. The Sooners stayed consistent to be the top team all the way through the competition, and still have room to improve for Four on the Floor. Senior Jordan Bowers won the all-around title with a 39.7125. She also had the highest scores in the first session on bars with a 9.9375 (tied with Missouri’s Mara Titarsolej and Florida’s Leanne Wong and Alyssa Arana) and floor where she tied teammate Faith Torrez with a 9.9500. After missing out on Four on the Floor last season, they are ready to be back on top. Oklahoma has been the most dominant team of the past decade and has won six titles, their last coming in 2023.

Missouri is heading to Four on the Floor for the first time in program history! Everyone expected the evening session to be the unpredictable one, but the Tigers made things interesting by upsetting #3 Florida. They were led by SEC champions Mara Titarsolej on bars with a session-high 9.9375 and Helen Hu on beam with a 9.9875, which won her the event title. Just a year ago Hu was traveling the world and now she’s a national champion! Just like at their regional final, Hu’s beam would determine if they advanced, and she did what she does best and came up big. If Mizzou can find their landings on vault and floor, and replicate their strong semifinals performances on bars and beam, they have a good shot at getting their first NCAA gymnastics title.

Utah is heading to Four on the Floor for the fifth straight year. Going into the final rotation of the evening session, all four teams were separated by less than two tenths, and every skill in every routine counted. That didn’t phase the Red Rocks, as they went on to put up a 49.6500 on bars, the highest score on any event in either session. They were led by senior and Olympian Grace McCallum who put up a 9.9625 on the event, as well as 9.9500s on vault and floor. Their team score of 197.7625 was the highest score from the semifinals, and their momentum has only been building as the season has gone on. Utah will look to win their first championship title, and tenth overall, since 1995.

The last team spot at Four on the Floor came down to one beam routine, with senior and Olympian Emma Malabuyo in the anchor position for UCLA. With reigning champion and top ranked team LSU’s last vault score coming in and putting them in second place, Malabuyo only needed better than a 9.7625 to secure UCLA’s place on Saturday; she went lights out to score a near perfect 9.975. UCLA also had two individual national champions, with Jordan Chiles winning the bar title with a 9.9750 and Brooklyn Moors winning the floor title with a 9.9625. The Bruins are back on the rise and are chasing their eighth national title and first since 2018.
There is still one more exciting day left in NCAA gymnastics this season, and if the semifinals showed one thing, it’s that anything can happen and the national title is anyone’s game. The NCAA Gymnastics National Championship will be broadcast at 4PM EST on ABC and Disney+ on Saturday. A new champion will be crowned, who will it be?
