The New York Sirens welcomed the Toronto Sceptres for the ninth game of the season on Jan. 12. This is the second time this season that the Sirens and Sceptres faced off and both have resulted in a Sirens win.
There were two power plays for the Sirens in the first period, but they failed to capitalize off them. When head coach Greg Fargo was asked about how they are running the power plays, he said: “Power play has been a little quiet, today it was for sure I thought and you know I don't know if it was as much to do with what we were or weren't doing but I think Toronto’s kill did a great job, they were connected on the kill. I think there's some areas where gotta continue to grow there on the pp.” While the Sirens dominated and took more shots than the Sceptres, the period remained scoreless.

During the second period, the Sceptres took many shots and dominated offensively. While talking about how the team performed, goalie Kristen Campbell said, “But I thought overall, like we talked about, like our team really responded well after the first period and carried [the] majority of the play”. All 17 of the shots they took were saved by goalie Corinne Schroeder. She did a great job protecting the net. Both teams had an opportunity for a power play, but neither team was able to score.
In the final period, the Sirens were close to scoring on a play that had to go under review. The referees ruled that it was not a goal. The Sceptres had a power play early on in the period but failed to score on the Sirens. With the score still being tied at 0-0 at the end of the period the game went into overtime. With just 1:23 left, Jessie Eldridge scored on an assist from Sarah Fillier and Jamie Bourbonnais. “I think Carpy made a really smart change right there and it triggered that Toronto D to think they can have the change. I think it’s little moments like that in three-on-three that make a big difference in opening up some space,” said Eldridge on her thought process on the goal.

Both goaltenders were named two of the three stars of the game. Schroeder had 28 saves and Campbell had 19. Eldridge was also named a star of the game for her game-winning goal in overtime.
The Sirens and Sceptres will match up four more times this season. Will the Sirens remain undefeated against the Sceptres, or will they take the lead in the season series?
