NHL Players' Offseason Lives

Losing in the playoffs or missing them entirely can be a sad ending to a season for a team in the NHL. However, this doesn’t mean that the players have uneventful lives in the offseason. A few of them have had pretty busy summers so far, so let's see what they’ve been up to.

Family Additions

Multiple members of the league have welcomed children with their significant others since the end of the season. David Pastrnak of the Boston Bruins and his partner Rebecca announced the birth of their daughter Freya Ivy on June 9th, which was something they have been looking forward to for a very long time.

Another player who had an exciting addition to his family is Brandon Montour, who wasn’t quite in the offseason when his newborn arrived. The Florida Panthers player and his wife Ryian weren't expecting to have their baby on June 18th, but she went into labor just before puck drop in game one of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Montour was there for his son’s birth, but had to promptly leave afterwards in order to make it back to Vegas for game two of the series.

Out and About

While not every player and their families were welcoming new members, they have still been finding ways to stay occupied for the few months they have out of the spotlight.

Trevor Zegras of the Anaheim Ducks recently posted photos of the fun he had with New York Islanders’ Oliver Wahlstrom at the Belmont Stakes in New York. Alongside them at the race was Spencer Knight, the Panthers goalie who is currently taking time off from the team to better his personal health.

Not too far away from the races, in Boston, Defenseman Charlie McAvoy attended the pride parade with his fiancee Kiley and his dog Otto. He commented that it was the first one he had attended, and they joined the Bruins Organization in the festivities despite much controversy around pride celebrations in the league.

Although many players have already had quite the summers, there are still months to go until formal training begins again in the fall. We can expect to see many more fun updates as the offseason months continue. The players for the Panthers and Golden Knights are now joining the rest of the league on vacation, and to kick it off Vegas will be on parade with the Stanley Cup in tow. There will definitely be many more Instagram posts from individuals and the league highlighting some of the events that the stars will be attending or even participating in. Fans will be seeing a lot of what the guys do in their time off very soon.
