In recent years, theme or special event nights have become more and more common throughout the NHL. These tend to be a wide variety of different themes or happenings, that up until recently would typically involve a commemorative jersey. These special jerseys were worn during the warm up period before games by the players, but it has been decided that this will no longer be the case. Despite this, there are still going to be plenty of events across different franchises that are bound to be great. A few organizations have announced events so far that are going to be hard to compete with.

Vegas Golden Nights

The 2023-24 Stanley Cup Champions have had a busy postseason, and will kick off the coming season with yet another celebration. The Knights organization announced that they will be having a ceremony to unveil their Championship banner on October 10, the opening day of the NHL season. This banner will be the first of its kind for the franchise and will be on display in their home rink, T-Mobile Arena.

Boston Bruins

This year, the Bruins are celebrating 100 years of being an NHL franchise, to do so they are having designated home games for their eras. There are five eras that Boston will be looking back on throughout their season; “The Early Years”, “The Big Bad Bruins”, “Lunch Pail A.C.”, “New Blood, New Beginnings”, and “Return of a Champion”. These games will honor different periods of time throughout Bruins’ history, starting from 1924 to the present. There have been minimal details published as to what these games might entail, whether it is just a special merchandise opportunity or if there may be some sort of tribute to those who played during each specific era.

NHL Global Series

The NHL is taking a world tour this upcoming season, with six teams going global to play overseas. There will be two locations at which the games will be held, Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne and Avicii Arena in Sweden. The series in Melbourne will be held September 23 and 24, counting as preseason games, and will be between the Arizona Coyotes and the Los Angeles Kings. The games held in Sweden will count as two regular season games per team, and will be between four teams. The teams participating in the Swedish series are the Detroit Red Wings, the Minnesota Wild, the Ottawa Senators, and the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Whether it is a season opener, home game, or series across the pond, this season is set to have some pretty intense matchups and it will be one for the books.
