One of the most unique things about Formula 1 is that it is constantly crossing paths with other industries, like music, fashion, film, and even other sports leagues. It’s always cool to see your favourite singer in the paddock or your favourite driver take in a game of your favourite sports team. Here is a list of some of the best F1 crossover moments.
Lewis Hamilton at the MET Gala 2024
The legend himself has made many appearances over the years at the MET Gala. He has upped his game every year at this coveted fashion, with 2024 being no exception. Lewis came dressed head to toe in black Burberry, making it on many top-dressed lists for the event. Lewis was also announced as one of the 2025 MET Gala’s co-chairs for this May’s exhibition, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style”.
Lando Norris and Tate McRae Sparking "2 hands" Music Video Appearance Rumours
As my favourite moment of the year, Tate McRae posted a TikTok with her driving a toy McLaren F1 car, with Lando Norris’ number 4 on the nose of the car. The man himself, his brand LN4, and Formula 1 all commented on the TikTok as well, to which the internet exploded with rumours that Lando would appear in Tate's new music video for her single "2 hands". Unfortunately for motorsport fans, Lando was not in the music video and it just happened to be a coincidence. When asked about the rumours, Lando said, “I love seeing what people come up with… I have a bit of fun every now and then.”
Lewis Hamilton takes on Hot Ones
Lewis took on the wings of death and lived to tell the tale. This episode of Hot Ones is a must watch for any F1 fan. This wholesome episode allows you to really get to see the 7-time world champion open up about himself while eating spicy vegan wings. It is a great introduction to who he is for people who aren’t a fan of the sport.
Franco and Alex Learn Hockey with the Vegas Golden Knights
What we learned from this crossover is that these guys should probably stick to driving. In this hilarious video with the Vegas Golden Knights, Alex and Franco suit up in special team gear and learn how to shoot a hockey puck. The boys compete in a shootout to see who can score more goals, with Franco (kind of) taking the win. Hopefully later this year we can see Carlos and Alex take on another hockey challenge.
Pierre Gasly Stars in Benson Boone’s New Music Video
In a fantastic marketing opportunity, Benson Boone and Will Freeark met Pierre Gasly in public and asked him to be in his new music video. Created in their hotel and at the race track, Pierre has the perfect cameo in Benson's music video for his new song "To Love Someone". Benson Boone and Will Freeark released the behind the scenes making of the low budget, yet creative music video on Amazon Music, and the internet went crazy for it. This is a really unique way to see one of the drivers cross paths into the music industry.
Lando Norris goes on a Date at the Chicken Shop
One of the most viral unique interview YouTube shows right now is Amelia Dimoldenberg’s Chicken Shop Date. This “date” is the most awkward and adorable episode ever. It now has over 3.5 million views, and is a great way for people to get to know the drivers who don’t know the sport.
The Ferrari Boys attend the Gladiator II Premiere
One of my favourite film meets Formula 1 moments is Paul Mescal hitting the red carpet interviews with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz at the London premiere of Gladiator II. The Ferrari drivers attended the premiere, took in some interviews, and hung out with the likes of Paul Mescal and Pedro Pascal. Paul Mescal in return came to the race track and played some games with the boys for the Ferrari YouTube channel.
Alpine Deadpool & Wolverine Livery & Race Suits
We are pretty sure that Marvel superfan Esteban Ocon was living his best life in this Deadpool & Wolverine gear. The Alpine F1 team was suited up in red for their weekend in Belgium, complete with yellow fireproofs, to promote part-owner Ryan Reynolds' movie Deadpool & Wolverine.
Pierre Gasly wore a Wolverine themed helmet, while Esteban Ocon wore a Deadpool themed helmet. The cars were also decked out in Deadpool red livery with yellow Wolverine claw marks along the engine cover for the movie’s release on July 16, 2024.
James Corden takes over McLaren Racing
Last but not least, one of my favourite moments to grace our screens was James Corden’s hilarious takeover of McLaren Racing back in 2022, where then McLaren driver Daniel Ricciardo was having lots of fun being carried around, dressed, fed, and radioed by Corden. McLaren opened their team to James to “help” improve the team at the first ever Miami Grand Prix. Throughout the video there are other pop culture crossovers, including TikTok dance moves and Lando and James singing "Let it Go" from Frozen.
