Competing in this year’s Derby were: Alec Bohm, Bobby Witt Jr., Adolis García, Teoscar Hernández, Pete Alonso, José Ramírez, Marcell Ozuna, and Gunnar Henderson. The MLB changed the rules; instead of two players facing each other, everyone hit and the top four would advance. The second round had Witt facing Ramírez and Hernández facing Bohm. Witt hit 17 home runs advancing to the second round. Hernández and Bohm tied with 14 and went into a swing-off. Hernández then advanced to the finals.
