What To Expect From the Upcoming Baseball Season

Christina Colistra

The 2025 Major League Baseball season is quickly approaching. Now that spring training games have officially started, fans are itching for baseball to be back in session. With all of the offseason moves, this season will be an exciting one. While we do not know how the season will turn out or what players will do, here are a few guarantees.

One thing we know for certain is that the Los Angeles Dodgers will yet again be one of the best teams in the league. With all of the offseason moves they made, like adding Blake Snell and Roki Sasaki to their roster, they are going to be a scary team to face. Though it’s unclear what their rotation will look like after Bobby Miller’s 106 mph line-drive to the head against the Cubs during last week’s spring training.

Another thing that is guaranteed is some tension in the Bronx. The Subway Series, where the New York Yankees face the New York Mets happens twice a season, once on each of their own turf. This year’s subway series might be a little different now that the Mets acquired Juan Soto in December following his debut with the Yankees last season. There is definitely going to be much more tension than usual and a loud large crowd at all six games is expected, especially the ones at Yankee Stadium. If you’re a Mets or Yankees fan, you will not want to miss going to those games.

Talking about the Yankees, we can expect to see some facial hair this season following the recent policy change. Fans are eager to see which players will be taking advantage of this new freedom. A rule dating back to 1976 said players were not allowed to have facial hair except for a mustache and their hair was not allowed to be past their collar. That rule was just lifted and players can now have a well-kept beard while their hair policy still remains.

In Houston, there is going to be a whole new dynamic this year. Many players from the Astros such as Alex Bregman, Kyle Tucker, Justin Verlander, and a few others are all off to new teams. This leaves just Jose Altuve and Lance McCullers as the only two players on the current team who were a part of the defamed 2017 World Series Championship team.

Baseball fans can expect a new generation to take over the game! Many new young guys in the league are hungry to win and are already making a name for themselves. One big name right now is Jackson. Jackson Chourio, Jackson Holliday, and Jackson Merrill have all been making it big this past year and they are all between the ages of 20 and 21.

Paul Skenes is another name that is being talked about in the baseball world, and for good reason too. Skenes is going into his second year in the big leagues and has already accomplished so much. He was the starting pitcher for the All-Star game for the National League as well as being named Rookie of the Year for the NL. Skenes is expected to continue to live up to the hype.
